Once the portable toilets came inside the home, they looked very
odd. The French designed a toilet which looked like a book case.
On this toilet was written the names of literary classics.

The colour of the cisterns was white and in cold countries, it
still made you feel more cold. The Austrians brought out, in the
19th century, colourful cisterns and urinals in the types -
floral, dolphin and lion. They were bright and very attractive.

A replica of the throne of King Louis XIII
King Louis XIII and Louis the XIV used to give audience while using the toilet. King Louis the XIII, actually had a commode under his throne, which prompted his court jester to remark that he found it a bit strange that while the
king preferred to eat in privacy, he chose to ease himself public. The replica of throne of Louis the XIII is now on display at the Sulabh International Museum of Toilets.
